The property of the Gafford Chapel Cemetery was originally granted April 11, 1884, from M.L. Garvin to the citizens in the locality of White Oak Congregation and Gafford Chappel Community. "I have this day given, granted, released and confirmed of, and do by these presents give, grant, release, convey and confirm unto said White Oak Congregation and Gafford Chappel School Community a certain lot of piece of land described as follows (to wit) situated in Hopkins County, Texas, on the waters of Nobel Creek of White Oak, a tributary of Red River about 6 miles West of Sulphur Springs, being a part of a 160 acre survey in the name J. W. Moore.......Containing 2 3/4 acres of land together with all and singular the improvements and appertenances of the same belonging excepting the Rail timber situated on said premises. To have and to hold and enjoy the above described premises as a free burial place. And I the said M. L. Garvin do hereby bind myself, my heirs and assigns to warrant and forever defend the title of said property against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons lawfully claiming the same or any part thereof." Grave maintenance is handled by someone hired by the Board of Directors. Their Job is to keep the cemetery and fences mowed and debris picked up so that all who come here can enjoy the serenity and beauty of the cemetery. Any thing that takes away from that will be removed.
